We had an extremely negative experience with a referee during the first match. The referee was unnecessarily aggressive in speaking with parents. The worst part was him yelling at a (13U) player; he had no business losing his composure. Individuals refereeing that age level should be better trained at helping players better understand the game/rules, NOT belittling players and making them cry. I will note that the calling of the game was also wildly inconsistent. Plays that were being called against one team were not being called against another. I am open for the interpretation of the rules to be applied liberally during a game, but that interpretation should be applied the same to both sides. The officiating of the other games went quite well.
My only suggestion is for 6 team brackets, to only play your bracket, then be seeded A1 A2 A3 B1 B2 B3, instead of playing a random crossover game. then on sunday morning A1 vs B2 and B1 vs A2 as a semi before the final. The 3 seeds play each other and go home, then the semi winners play the final.
You could tell the sideline referees were working their first ever shifts. Not fair to the parents who are paying for this or the competitors who aren't getting fair calls. Totally disrespectful get experienced refs or don't host such a big tournament
Teams needed even level 1 with level 1 teams not a level 1 team against a level 5 team it's not right for both teams
